ACTING WORKSHOP WITH THE PROS!
Mad Horse Theatre Company, Portland’s own resident professional theatre ensemble, is sponsoring an acting workshop in spring 2011, taught by professional director and actor Al D’Andrea.

“Acting From The Ground Up: How An Actor Prepares To Play The Role”
is a fresh approach to acting that takes a comprehensive, in-depth look at the building blocks of the actor’s work in creating a role in a play. Teacher Al D’Andrea will work with students to explore the fundamentals of the art, including partnership, action, objective, character, emotion, and conflict, through a variety of games, exercises, and improvisations. The workshop is suitable for beginners as well as experienced actors who seek an active workout while revisiting the essential elements of their stagecraft. No acting experience needed.

WEEK 4: Action and Objective
WEEK 5: Feeling and Emotion
WEEK 6: Character I – Relationships, Traits, Attitude
WEEK 7: Character II – History and Physicality
WEEK 8: Conflict and Agreement
Al D’Andrea has worked professionally as an actor and director in New York and Los Angeles for over 30 years. He is the former artistic director of New York’s Third Step Theatre Company, where he developed dozens of new plays and musicals for the stage, and current Artistic Director of the new Snowlion Repertory Company based in Portland. He has directed countless productions and workshops across the country, and has taught for many years. His teaching is based on the work of two theater greats with whom he studied - the legendary Stella Adler and Hollywood sensation Stephen Book, protégé of the renowned Viola Spolin.
